LACAH VII is here!

LACAH is back with another exciting international tournament! Over the course of 2 days and four trials, participants will explore the protections of political speech and its limits, putting the Nazi-era publisher, Julius Streicher, on trial.

What is LACAH?

The Law Association for Crimes Across History (LACAH) is a nonprofit, student-run mock trial tournament that explores justice and history through trialing historical figures. Through participating in LACAH, students can develop critical thinking, public speaking, and meet like-minded peers.

For those more serious about the profession of law, LACAH regional tournaments are also a great option for exploring the world of litigation and can help develop the skills necessary for competing in higher level tournaments. Many of LACAH’s participants have gone on to compete in and win awards in national and international tournaments.

“LACAH was the first piece of bedrock towards me... competing among the best competitors on this planet.”

What is this trial’s case?

In a revisitation of the first LACAH tournament in 2020, LACAH VII’s case focuses on Julius Streicher, a major publisher of anti-semitic propaganda during Nazi Germany. While his publications were not directly affiliated with the Nazi regime, the degree to which his newspaper, Der Sturmer, was antisemitic, and the popularity thereof, led the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg to find Streicher guilty of Crimes Against Humanity and sentence him to death. Through this

While the subject of the case is the same, LACAH VII’s Julius Streicher case is a demonstration of the organization’s maturation and growth in the preceding three years. LACAH has completely revamped the Streicher case, compiled by a group of three accomplished mock-trialers with review by experienced college students.

What if I am a beginner?

If you are a beginner, fear not! LACAH provides plenty of resources for beginners, with three weekly lessons with supplemental reading and video resources. These resources will teach you all the basics of mock trial, including but not limited to writing statements, understanding objections, and learning court procedure. LACAH will help ensure that you are well prepared before jumping into your first trial!

What can LACAH lead to?

LACAH is excited to announce their partnership with MockUnited this tournament to offer the “MockUnited Scholarship”, given to teams selected by Mock United for exemplary performance. Mock United is a non-profit coaching program helping experienced competitors excel in competitions and schools new to mock trial to initiate their own program. This scholarship aims to promote the development of mock trial internationally amongst diverse backgrounds. Mock United will provide two teams with free pro-bono coaching from college coaches to either IMT Act II or III, consisting of three 45-minute sessions to one team and two 45-minute sessions to the other. Through this scholarship, exemplary participants can take their mock trial experience from LACAH to a higher stage.

How do I participate?

Our seventh international tournament will be taking place on November 16th and 17th, with two trials from 13:30-15:30 and 17:00-19:00 PM China Time (GMT+8) on each day. This tournament consists of online trials hosted on Zoom. There is a fee of 70 RMB (10 USD) to cover software costs. Fee waivers are provided to those in need.

LACAH accepts individual participants (in which case we will arrange a team), but we highly encourage participants to join with their friends. Please ensure that your team is available for all trial times before signing up. Signups are open before October 25th. We hope to see you there!
