LACAH Europe Regional Tournament: Fall 2022

LACAH Europe 2022 was a great success and is the first of many LACAH opportunities to come in Europe! On November 26th and 27th of this year, teams across Europe came together to try Harry S. Truman for dropping the two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Though he was never put on trial, there was always a great deal of controversy surrounding this monumental order to drop “Fat Man” and “Little Boy,” specifically whether or not the second bomb constituted a war crime.

This tournament was special because many teams consisted of beginners, who spoke English as a second language. This was also the first mock trial experience they had been exposed to, as other than LACAH, there are very few mock trial opportunities in Europe. Nonetheless, through their eagerness, open-mindedness, and proactiveness, the teams displayed a splendid amount of professionalism and excellence in the courtroom. LACAH could not be prouder, and we hope to host more tournaments for passionate students around the globe to introduce the world of mock trial and law to youth, regardless of their background.

Key Focus: Teamwork

With this completion, LACAH saw an uneven number of competitors and wanting everyone to participate in every trial, the LACAH executives formed a Bounce Team. This team, consisting of three LACAH executives who had ample knowledge of the case, split up each trial and joined teams that needed an extra person or two. Making sure not to overshadow actual participants, the executives let them take the lead while offering helpful tips and suggestions.

The true spirit of mock trial is not winning or loosing the case, but rather it is the way a team works together regardless if the team met months before or hours before.
